Cars Running like Crap. Help me!!!

Okay the car is an 86 mustang with about 86 thou miles on it, the mods i did to it were took off the smog pump and the A/C, Put a BBK cold air intake kit ok, put new boush 2 spark plug(with the 2 fire pieces on it). Put it a new blaster coil, New BBK long tube headders, off road H pipe, and Flows. thanks about it.
My TPS is set perfect as 0.97, but heres the problem, when i start it it goes up to about 1700 rpms then slow lowers to 1000 rpms the it kinda seems like it wants to stall going to about 800 to 700 rpms. and it smell real stinky out the exhaust. i have no clue what it could be, i was thinking maybe something with the fuel presure, It still has the stock regulator on it and i dont know what its at. Could you guys please help me out.
Thanks alot.
Ernie

well my guess is the 30lb injectors with no aftermarket fuel pressure reg.... Did u check to see what the fuel pressure is at? With out a fp gauge ur kinda shooting in the dark

Those bosh plugs? they are platinums? well imo, they are crap, are they gapped?
stock fuel pressure is at 38-40, that should be fine, does it 'pop' when you accelerate? are you sure the plug wires are in the right order? even some of the best of us stanger's leave one off from time to time:o check timing also with a light.

It's going to stink because it runs rich when cold and you have no cats. Have you let it learn to idle by just letting it run for 10-15 minutes?

The Bosch plugs should be fine. As already asked, what are they gapped at?

Set your TPS down to .85. .97 is too close to be certain it's not falsely reading partial throttle.

Is your vacuum line hooked up to the FPR properly?

Ernie,
86's are "Speed Density" cars.....

Speed Density does not use an air meter at the intake to calculate the fuel/air mixture. Instead, it uses pre-set tables programmed into the ECU to adjust the mixture...

It can't compensate for the mods you added! You should convert it to a "Mass Air" system. Then it will be able to correct for the mods you've done (and more!) A mass air meter measures the actual amount of air entering the intake and compensates accordingly! Speed Density can only compensate to a certain degree; you've passed that point!

He hasn't really done much to the engine. He's removed the AC and smog equipment and added headers, off-road exhaust, spark plugs and a coil. That's hardly enough to freak out an SD computer.

If he's changed the head, added a cam, and stuff like that, then yes, MAF would be the way to go.

HEy there thanks guys, the Boush plugs are the new boush 2 the one that you dont have the gap as the guy told me at pepboy, they have two two firing pins at the bottom. the vaccum line is hooked up the FPR, i tried to lower the TPS but the is sound to run worst. i dont know if the spark plugs are giving me trouble or not. when i changed the TPS i just moved it until my volt meter read 0.97 did i have to reset something?. thanks alot you guys.

My friend has an '88 Mustang (Speed Density), mines an '89 (Mass Air).

We both did the same exact mods to our cars at the same time (in the same garage), underdrive pullies, long tube headers, eliminate cats and smog pump.

Mine idled like a dream, my friends '88 displayed the same exact symptoms that Ernie mentioned in his first post!

I don't recall how he resolved the issue, it was a few years ago when this happened!

SD cars are more touchy than people think!
