intake question??

i heard you can change the intake manifold in a 94' gt to a ford explorer intake and it flows way more cfm's than the stock gt intake... does anyone know if this is true or if it is what other mods will you have to make to have it work? thanks for all input.

94' gt: 4:10's, o/f xpipe, 40 series flowmasters, k&n filtercharger system, and yeah that funny juice:D N.O.S stage 1

Yes it is true, I have the explorer intake onmy 90LX.

Its flows great. Very easy straight forward install. especially on a 94-95 cause you dont have to drill for the act sensor.

I highly reccomend it.

what year explorers work and do u have to change both upper and lower or only upper?? how much et increse or hp increase should i plan on having?

thanks chris

On the explorer upper and lower intake the ports are staggered. On the stock intake the ports go in a straight line so you have to change both the upper and lower.

On a stock headed intake expect a true 10-12 HP.

You have to rework the linkage on the explorer 65mm TB to get it work on a stang. The mass air from the explorer works.

I dont remember what year explorer but it is the late model 5.0 explorers.

I just finished building the 90LX so I dont know what it will do.

We will soon see.

the explorer intake has a 65 mm TB? Is it the same mounting as the mustang TB? If so any Ideas on how much one would go for at a salvage yard? I really need a new bigger TB.

The explorer tb has to be modified on the throttle linkage spring on the bottom, run a search in windsor forum on this.

I just got my explorer intake back from the machine shop today, man i wish i could host some picks, it is drilled for the act, plugged the heater coolant line, runners are completley ported and polished all the way through, it looks great! with the port size on these heads i should see 20 hp gain, but on a stock motor 10-12 hp is about right like dark50 said.
