yelowjaket 06-05-2003 12:42 PM

here to stay

I've posted this ? once before but it was a long time ago, and not on this board. Anyways the answer i got was that it's here to stay for a long time....A LONG time. oh well, if i see e'm i'll kill e'm no biggie anymore.

It will go out the same time that the 10-sizes too big jeans that hang so low your fruit-of-the-looms cover up your butt-crack goes away.... In my opinion, it can't be too soon....

8T4SVOChick 06-05-2003 12:47 PM

I think it's here for a while, but like everything else, will eventually fade into something else.

Mass Stang 06-05-2003 01:13 PM

I hear ya guys. I like your thinking hammer and yelojacket.

rbohm 06-05-2003 01:23 PM

remember custom vans in the 70's? full on factory correct restorations of the 80's? custom trucks of the 90's? this is the ricers fad of the first decade of the new millenium. things that are good endure, like street rods and mustangs. things not good fade away, like pet rocks and hopefully ricers.

Mass Stang 06-05-2003 01:31 PM

Your right the Mustang has been around since 64, and still kicking. And there was nothing that touches the cult following that the 5.0 has had and still has. To me this whole ricer thing is just embarassing. To see a 80 pound skinny *** kid in a juiced up civic irritates me. I just don't understand the thinking. All of us have heard our dad, or dads friend saying "Oh I had a Mustang, or camaro, or gto or vette ect. Man I wish I had that car back" I just can't see a 40 year old guy 15-20 years from now bragging about that civic he had when he was a kid and wishing he had it back. I can appreciate the work done to these cars but I can see why you would want to. To me it is like puttung a flowmaster on a moped, and bragging about it and trying to race a vette.

Rice Hunter 06-05-2003 01:35 PM

It's tough to compare the ricer craze with other fads. Hehe, the pet rock was just plain retarded, so that died out;) . Then again, modifying muscle cars has held on throughout the years. Ricers are just about as useless (and fast :p ) as a pet rock, but there still is the modifying engines/vehicles aspect that never seems to go away. Soooooooooo....in short....I dunno:D

rbohm 06-05-2003 01:52 PM

consider how long each of the stupid fads lasted. mood rings were around about 5 years, pet rocks about the same. i think the ricer craze may last longer but not too much, maybe another 4 years or so? i mean hip hop is a stupid fad but it is still around, kind of. and when it comes to cars there is not limit to the stupidity that people can display. just like computers, cars are a big part of our lives, and many people think that just because they can operate, i wont say drive because that entails more than just point and steer, a car they think they know everything. personally i have an AAS in automotive technology, and was a crew chief on a B/FA from 79-82, and i still dont know everything.

I don't have a problem with people trying to make big horsepower with little displacement, whether it's foreign or domestic. I think a 14 second 4 cylinder is cool, and 12 seconds and faster is downright impressive. I do have a problem with the assumption that fart-can exhaust tips, ridiculously large wings, neon, and stickers make a car faster. I wouldn't mind putting 6-8 pounds of boost to my Alero, but I don't have the money for it. If I had the money, the Alero wouldn't be anywhere near the top of my priority list. But I can understand wanting to have fun in your daily driver too. I just don't like the ricer culture (which is the equivalent of scraping the bottom of the "auto enthusiasts barrel").

bigdaddy3312 06-05-2003 03:57 PM

 naw,yo yo yo,i gots deese spoon stickahs and light covers for my civic de other day,and yo i gained like 3 ths!!! for real!i waxed my mirror too and like gained 1th more.........you dose domestic terds better beware now.........i put like 500 lbs of amps and subs, like 25" kickers and s h i z n i t to get traction..........i feel you pain guys........keep it clean low and fast no stickers....c mon! mass stang and i will be in our 5.0 s for the opening.......

chuck88 06-05-2003 04:51 PM

I fear the fad is here to stay. These kids are buying up the affrodable used car market and the natural hot rodder in all takes over the need to modify!! Unfortunately the used car market is mostly rice and movies like fast & furious tells them (they cant think for themselves) what mods to put on thier cars.

aford50lx 06-06-2003 01:28 AM

I think we all have along wait. This is not going away anytime soon.I dont have a problem with a person tryin to make his/her car faster, but these ricers are just too much, the spoilers, the neons, the crazy loud crap-music,(oh,sorry rap music) and all those stickers,i agree with Shaun Barcelow. This is never going to stop, its going to get worse, cause these movies are going to keep coming out and all the ricers are going to love it.We just got to keep them real and kill them at all costs, look at me i blew a very costly motor doing just that!!!!Dumb mistake on my part, but what the hell, thats one accord that will think twice before it messes with a 92 fox!!!!!!! I blew the stickers off that s**t-box!!!!,but paid a huge price!!!!!

Mass Stang 06-06-2003 06:37 AM

Sorry about your engine. Must feel good to bring a ricer back to reality though hu ?

Axman 06-07-2003 05:41 PM

Signs of the times?

I used to subscribe to Hot Rod Magazine about 5 years ago. Most everything they built up was either GM, Ford or Mopar. Thursday I went by the mag rack in my local grocer's and they had a Hot Rod Magazine featuring identification of Honda engines. WTF? I always said it before and I'll say it again, "Front drive has it's place but not at the races."

There is a kid that lives near me that has a Dodge Avenger. It's a red car. Fart can, WHITE wipers (yes, wipers), a few stickers in various spots, and WHITE chinese writing going across his door.

The best part? I saw his mom driving it the other day! I was laughing so hard I almost drove off the road. She looked really scared as she passed me...like she couldn't handle all the power it was making

Dodge Avenger? Isn't that really a Mitsu Gallant or something with Dodge badges (i.e. Dodge Stealth/Eagle Talon/Mitsu Eclipse)?

Hey lets face it they are here to stay. American muscle is starting to die out, Camaro's dead.....Trans-Am dead. Only Mustangs and Vettes will survive. I don't have a problem with the new tuners. 2300lb cars with high powered engines. Whats not to like. Yeah so they sound like sewing machines, or how did they put it Fart Cans! I like that one. The problem is with the people who drive them. There are some cool ones who keep them low key. But then there are the rest. With the lights, bad stick ons, sound systems so loud and badly tuned that you cant listen to the music. It's all Hype!!! This is America dont forget, they can do as they please. The best part is how they get that "WHAT THE ****" look on their face when I see them in my rearview mirror!!

1996CAMSS 06-08-2003 08:24 PM

Well... I am new here and don't want to start any waves, but I have no problem with "ricers", or any other "group" out there. I look at it as "to each your own". I feel this is a fad that will be around for a while.

P.S. I owned a 87 5.0 LX years ago and enjoyed it very much. Problem was, I couldn't keep a tranny in it. The T5 doesn't like powershifts.
After 3 years and many dollars in trans repairs, I sold the car and got a 95 Grand Prix. Loved the car and had it for 3 years, but broke up with long time gf and decided to go back to something with a bit of power, so I bought a 96 Camaro SS which is very fun to drive(I don't drive it too often though). I also have a 88.5 Escort GT that I use as a daily driver for work, but wanted something else to drive that was nice when I wasn't working. I went and bought a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT which is actually a very nice car. I never pictured myself owning a Hyundai, but it is a very good deal. I did some tasteful mods to it and don't consider it "rice". What do you think?
