Need a good rubber softener
The rubber on my GT is going to be less flexible with the age. I want to prevent purchasing some new one. Does someone using a good rubber softener.

What I use to keep my tires from cracking is brake fluid....cheap and easy, just wipe the excess off,a good method to store them also, softens the rubber right up.

The best thing I've ever found for protecting rubber, and restoring it to look like new, is your old anti-freeze. It has rubber conditioners added to it to protect the insides of your hoses. Next time you flush your cooling system, save the old fluid, and use it for all your automotive rubber, including your tires. It makes them look factory fresh, rather than making your tires look like glazed donuts.
Take care, ~Chris |
MMM glazed donuts. But i have actually tried doing as pkrwud mentioned and used some antifreeze to clean up tires and even hoses and it makes them look really good. Like he said you dont get that fake glass just a nice dull shine.

You guys talking about the sidewalls or the tread? I have used diesel fuel (on the tread) on our circle track tires. Works OK but didn't notice any decrease in times. Was able to get from a 70 on the durometer to 55-60. Its cheap and it stinks real bad.....
