How much faster did you go with a cam change.

I am about to install my new ported GT-40 lower intake and I am thinking about going ahead and changing the cam while I am in there. My car is basicly a track only car so its #1 function is to go fast.

Relitively speaking how many tenths is an E or B cam worth in the 1/4? Is it worth my time?

I really dont care for my E-cam much. Im switching it for a TFS#1 here fairly soon. I dont have any experience myself, but I would say the best guess ia 1.5-2mph.

I did headers, cam, and intake manifold all at the same time and lost 7 tenths.

I would say maybe a tenth or two (probably not the latter)... I would say it is worth it, but if your car's #1 function is track, then I would say hold off on your cam until you get some more mods and then get a custom cam.

Thanks,

I should go at least 104mph just as it sits. I was going 102 when the engine was in the convertible with less mods.

In one of my 5.0 books they claim to have gained 20HP with the E cam. If it helped that much it would be worth it.

I guess I will see what it will do now as it sits before I mess with a cam. I guess I will go with some 1.7 RR.

I predict a 13.20 @105mph cause of the crappy altitude here where I live.

Anyone else have any opinions?

with speed density i dunno how well it will take a bigger cam, i hear of so many ppl puttin cams in them an they run horrible, maybe someone else knows sumtin i dont?

Before I put in my B cam, I was running consistent 14.4's with a best of 14.2x. Now it is consistantly at 14.2, but I have only been to the track once and I couldnt catch traction for chit. I would say a couple of tenths. I was gonna go with the tfs stage one, but I got theb cam for $50 at a swap meet.

ackbar, i dont wanna sound rude, but do you think those mph figures could be incorrect track mph? i mean we have 2 tracks here in s.a, one of the older tracks gives higher mph than the other, about 2-3 mph. That, or you car is light, and has about 12:1 compression:confused: sorry, just a thought that bothers me.

Now on the subject, i put the e-cam in with ported heads in my car for daily work commuter, i think the e-cam is great for daily driving, and is smog legal, and fairly economical.
For a mostly track car, i would go with 1.6rr's and tfs1 cam, and it would still be streetable, but not somethin i would drive to work everyday........sadly, i only gained 2 mph with heads and cam, using stock intake, but i found out the stock springs are not revving, and cant hold the cam lift, so i ordered some better springs, i expect to pull out a 12.90 at 105 pretty easy after i can rev it high again, it went 13.0@ 103 as it is, 3100lb car 3.27 grs.
but a custom cam will give you best results, as mentioned above.
