GT40P header question

I'm going to use a set of GT40P heads. I know that the spark plugs are at a different angle than the stock E7 heads, but do you guys know of any long tubes that will fit these heads? I know you can get the FMS shorty GT40P headers, but what about long tubes? Thanks yall!

Actually, let me ask you this, does anyone have GT40P's with a set of BBK 1 5/8 long tubes? That's what I'm wanting to run. You guys know if they will fit? Maybe I should just email BBK. Thanks guys.

They dont fit.

QuantumMotorsports 06-27-2003 07:10 PM

Gee, thanks for that useful piece of info, do you know of any long tubes that do fit?

fiveohpatrol 06-28-2003 10:51 AM

well I know first hand that the MAC 1-5/8" longtubes work. Because I have them on my P heads on my car.

I put a heat shield boot on my #4 sparkplug because it was a little close, and put a 90degree spark plug boot end on the #7 because you cant fit the 135degree ones in that one. The other six plugs are fine.

A few of them are a little tight to get out, but I've gotten all 8 out while the engine is hot without burning my hands, so its not THAT bad.
On the tight ones, I just put the sparkplug socket on the plug, then I use a 3/4" wrench on the hex end of the socket to get it out instead of a ratchet.

Let me know if you have any more questions, and don't let the P head sparkplug clearance rumors scare you into buying those overpriced shorty headers!
longtubes for life baby:cool:

five oh patrol, Thanks man,

That's just what I was wanting to hear. I'll check out those Mac headers. Do you know how much they cost? Thanks a bunch man.

fiveohpatrol 06-28-2003 02:14 PM

I think they're about $220 new, but I got mine from ebay slightly used for like $140.
Check out ebay and the classifieds on various message boards (Corral always has a bunch).

Dont worry about the finish of a used pair, because the HTC crap coating on the MAC headers burns off within a few days anyway.

Unless you jet-hot them, they won't look that great. But for the price, I couldnt pass it up.

Hey 5 oh, are these the headers? They're funky shaped compared to other long tubes. They look cool. Were they tough to install? I have a tubular K member and the engine is out of the car so it shouldn't be a prob. Thanks man.

fiveohpatrol 06-29-2003 03:10 PM

Yeah those look to be the ones. You can tell by the drivers side one, because teh steering shaft goes between 2 of the primaries. That part is a bit of a hassle on the install, but since the motor is out, you won't have one bit of a problem putting them in.

I did mine with the motor in the car. Had to jack the engine up to get the passenger side header in, and remove the steering shaft to do the drivers side. Other than that, they weren't too bad.

good luck
