Timing question

Hey guys everytime I here someone readjusting the time everyone always say to remove the spout before you do it. Im no mechanic so everytime i would adjust my timing i never messed with the spout. What the hell is a spout and where is the spout? Sorry for the stupid question but thats what forums are for. I drive a 95 gt. Thanks!

If you don't remove the spout connector, you have no idea where your timing is set. The ECM controls the timing, so if you want to change it, you have to temporarily prohibit the ECM from controling things. That's what the spout connector does. It's usually located in a pigtail off of the distributor/TFI module. It will look like a little plastic square, maybe 1"x1"x1/4", with a yellow/green wire running into each side of it.

When you unplug it, you are taking away the ECM's ability to control the timing, and it will stay steady. If you try and set the timing with the spout connector in, it will keep changing, trying to correct what you've done. Don't forget to install the spout when you have finished setting the timing.

Take care,
~Chris
