Runs--then won't start??
Okay, I have an '86 GT. It has run like a top until recently. The other day I started it up and drove it around awhile. I got out at Wal-Mart, and when I turned the key, it would turn over but not start. I left it there for about 30 minutes, and then tried it again, and viola, it started. It has done this two more times since. What could be wrong?

Read my post about my car almost leaving me stranded and a post by flubiu2 (I think thats the name) that is on page 2. The title of his post is "just shuts off".
I have a very similar problem to yours and unfortunately I haven't figured it out yet. ------------------ 1991 GT, AOD, Moroso Cold Air, 3.73s, Pulleys, 3-chamber(the left one fell off-NO time+No Money=College), FMS c-springs, and KYBs |
I'm 99% sure the problem is with your fuel pump.
I had the same problem with my stang a few years ago. It would occasionally die and wouldn't start for a few minutes. I took it to numerous shops and of course none of them could reproduce the problem. Talk about frustrating. Start with replacing your fuel pump, it's not too expensive and the stock pump doesn't push enough fuel anyway (upgrade to 110 or 155LPH). ------------------ Eric - 89 Mustang LX coupe 302 - Cobra Intake - GT40p heads - TFS stage 1 cam - FRPP 1.6 roller rockers - Naturally Aspirated 3.73 gears - KYB shocks and struts - Eibach springs - HPM Mega-bite Jr lower control arms - HPM upper control arms |
