Thinking about getting a new one
Whats up modular folks. I have been debating the idea of buying a 99-02 stang vert for a daily driver. I have a couple of questions. Are there any reliability issues with them, ex. tranny, head gaskets, ECU...? How strong do the vert aod's run? I really want something newer to drive, so I can give new life to my 90gt as a track only car. Any suggestions on a year that may be better than another or just what to look out for when looking at them would be greatly appreciated. I have put all of my efforts so far into the 90gt, and I know nothing about the modular engine. Thanks in advance for your help.

Caymon,
I love my 02 GT vert, but I have to admit I'm disappointed in the build quality. My 95 GT is put together much better. :( I've had a transmission replaced and still have problems in cold weather (which sucks because I live in Canada). That being said, the car is very nice, the 4.6L pulls all the way to red line and delivers very smooth power. The convertible top works like a dream and has vurtually no leaks. After working on my 5.0L the 4.6L engine bay look scary  :D . All in all they are nice cars, and worth the money, but don't get rid of your 5.0! :D |

The bottom end in my '00 GT blew up with 45K on it and no power adder, but I think it may have been due to poor oil management with the stock pan and high-G cornering and braking (I've got 13" brakes and suspension to the hilt). That said, I still love the car but I wish I knew for sure what killed the motor. It was never overheated, over-revved, or run low on oil.
If I were considering buying a new Mustang now, I would wait for the '05; it should be a much more solid platform to build on than the current car. |
I,m running a 98 GT vert auto that is a rebuild ( body only )and is now boosted. Have had no tranny or vert problems. I love it, I give it a good workout on weekends and can't say much bad about it.
