4 t0 8cyl swap
I need some help. I have bought 89 Mustang Convertible with a 2.3 engine. Im interested in swapping in a 302. I have a 84 Crown Vic with a great 302 that has been changed to a carbeurated intake that I plan on using. I have done a swap in a 66 Mustang before so I have some experience just no knowledge of the newer Mustangs yet. Im trying for a daily driver,no hypo stuff yet. Possibly might add some gt40 heads if it will help with this older 302. Thanks ahead of time. Patrick

there is going to be alot of "nickle and dime" stuff to worry about, nothing you can't figure out, your biggest concern in my opinion is you will have to change to a different transmission, and your rear end will need to be replaced, although alot of people have done a successfull swap leaving in the 4 cyl 7.5" rear, it is weaker and is only a matter of time before it goes.
I would also recommend tackling the suspension and brakes. the orginal stuff will work but your ride will be slopy and the car will break with alot of nose dive. I would suggest if you are doing the swap but want to keep a good daily driver do the rear end, suspension, front brakes, then the engine and tranny.... that way you could spend a weekend end doing each but still drive during the week.(once you pull the engine it will take a little longer then the weekend) good luck |
