curious as to what HP i possibly have

ok, i have been to the track with disapointing times to me and was wondering what HP you think I might have with and without spray based on my MPH and 1/4 mile times. I understand you will not have exact numbers but would appreciate a "guess" as to what you think I should have. these times were done on street tires if it matters. my mods are listed a t bottom.

BEST TIME WITH 75 shot of nitrous 13.227 at 112 with a 2.1

BEST TIME w/o nitrous 13.592 at 103 with a 2.0 60' time

anyone with the holley systemax II kit that can make a hypothesis? Thanks,

Jim

270-290, depending on vehicle weight, and 350-385 on the spray.
Get it on a chassis dyno and find the right fuel pressure and timing for that motor, either that or something has been hurt in that motor.

mmmmmm that scares me a little bit! what could be hurt? any other thoughts?

You probably just need to get it dialed in. The 30 lb injectors are pretty big for the power it's making right now (N/A) so I think a custom burnt chip with info from a dyno run would be best. One with a switch option would be necessary for the nitrous though.
It might be something like valve float that's costing a bunch of hp at the top end or something like that, you'll need to dyno it to truly know.
What are your fuel pressure and base timing at right now?

tmoss 08-25-2003 07:41 AM

You'll have to give your race weight for an estimate based on mph.

1jimmy__d 08-25-2003 08:01 AM

race weight is about 3200 lbs. timing is at 14 i believe and fuel pressure was recently set to around 39 at idle i think. had to do that for the nitrous that was installed.

tmoss 08-25-2003 11:37 AM

270hp for 103 mph

348hp for 112mph

at the flywheel

tires

You need to get some sticky tires for the track Jimmy. Then you'll finally see the times that your motor is truely worthy of. I'm sure you have over 300 hp at the flywheel...and with a little more practice and some better tires...your 1/4 mile times will reflect that. I wonder why the person that built your motor used 30lb. injectors? Strange... If you stick with those 30lbers. you may want to do what red82gt said and consider a run on the dyno...and possibly a custom burnt chip with those big injectors. I'm usually not a fan of chips...but for your application it may be of some benefit.

You can figure HP till you are blue. That is not your problem. The 60ft is your problem. Work on get the 60ft better, and you will love your car ten times more.

1jimmy__d 08-25-2003 07:42 PM

your right about the tires and 60 foot times. i had an earlier post that made that clear. i am just trying to burn the ones i have down now so that my next 2 wil be DR's :) howmuch do those chips cost typically? in the future i plan on buying a supercharger for it; hopefully in 2 summers (wife permitting). would the chip be obsolete if i get a superchardger eventually? thanks for replies. Oh yeah, when you purchase the holley syst. II kit, dont they come with the injectors already, or is that something the previous owner chose? cause I thought this kit "advertises" as 350 HP!

red82gt 08-25-2003 09:20 PM

The 60 ft time is good for radials, it's the MPH that's the weak link.
I also forgot to ask what the altitude of your track is?

1jimmy__d 08-25-2003 09:36 PM

whatever altitude rochester new york is! not sure

hmm, my car is about 100 lbs less, but i run on a slick, but your setup should have much more aggressive cam, and better flowing heads......is say your car is capable of 106-107 with good tune on some dragradials, 13.0's.... or ice the intake, drop the clutch on some e.t. streets for a 1.75- 1.80 60' and your in the 12's guaranteed.
