Stupid lighting related question

I just noticed that the front turn lights on my car dont seem to work with the headlights on (the headlights come on, but the markers stay off).
They do however blink when I hit the turn signal. Is this the way its supposed to be, or is there yet another short for me to deal with?

do they come on when you just turn the parking lights on?

Mine do the same thing on my 68 Mustang. The parking lights and turn signals work perfectly, but when you turn on the headlights the parking lights go out. I was told by a few other people this was normal and the way Ford designed them.

It could be a short, but the first thing you should do is check the bulbs and make sure both filaments are good in each. It is possible that you burned out the low power filaments, but not the high power ones. If the bulbs both look fine, it's time to check the wires for power at the switch, and see if the switch is at fault.

I'm having a similar problem. I have a 67 Mustang 2+2 and the parking lights go out when the headlights go on (front only). The turn signals and flashers work, but the parking lights are out. We Ohm'd out the headlight switch and when the switch is pulled all the way out to turn the headlights on, the leg for the parking lights drops out. So therefore, I think that this is the way that it's supposed to be, but I don't know for sure. I talked to a Mustang restoration guy and he said that the parking lights should be on when the headlights are on. According to the switch, the lights should be off (which they are).

I'm wondering, do I have a problem? Or is this Mustang guy wrong.

Take into consideration i'm trying to remember a long way back, but if my memory serves me correctly, the parking lights are not on at the same time the headlights are. In fact i seem to remember some guys fixing them where they would be, and for awhile it would get you a ticket to have amber parking lights on at night with your headlights. Then again, that memory could come from all that hooch i was smokin around 67 ? :p

It is normal that when u turn on the lights, the front parking lights go out, not a wiring problem at all. i think Ford did that up untill 69, I'd have to look at my friends '69 again.

They should turn on only with the parking lights are on, then go off when u turn on the head lights. Plus they should have the normal blinking. It's kinda a parking light vs running light thing. They were only made for parking lights.
