Tuning question after heads and cam

I finally got my 6037 Edelbrocks on accompanied by the e-303 cam. Anyhow, when I first mat the pedal I get some black smoke which leads me to think the fuel pressure is to rich and the cars getting too much fuel. Could I change the timing to cure this or do I need a adj. fuel pressure regualtor? My present timing is at approx. 14 deg.right now.

As long as you degreed the cam correctly, the notches on the timing chain cam gear, you should be good. The black smoke seems to be an issue with the computer or something. I never had an issue with Black Smoke on two E-303 installs. We retarded the cam gear during the install, but that was because of my selection of a ford timing chain. I expect that you did the required reset of the computer and everything. The fuel pressure setting should not produce such results, but I could be wrong on your particular application. Cam overlap could be some the issue, but by no means am I an expert in this arena.

How much have you driven it after installing the cam? The computer needs time to adapt since the engine is different. What other mods do you have? Did you get new injectors but not a MAF sensor?
