Confused on head bolt torque.
I have some Canfield aluminum heads.
The ARP head bolts say 60ft lbs The Felpro T1011-1 head gasket says 70ft lbs and then re-torque to 80ft lbs. What do I do? I was thinking just torque them all down to 70ft lbs and move on. |
Don't go by what a gasket says for head torque specs. The torque is dependent on the bolts and head material. I believe the ARP fasteners come with a piece of paper that tells you the torque settings to use with different head materials and block materials, but I may be wrong. Anyway, if you want to be sure the gaskets are compressed correctly, I don't think the ARP fasteners are going to fail with 10 extra ft. lbs. But, be sure to use thread sealer.

My TFS TW heads manual says the following: _____________________ 7/16" Head Bolts: Torque to 35 ft.-lbs., 50 ft.-lbs., and 70 ft.-lbs., then tighten only the long bolts an additional 10 ft.-lbs. Retorquing shouldn't be necessary after initial break-in, but can be done if desired. _____________________ Since they're both aluminum heads, I would imagine it would be the same for either Canfield's or TW's. Hope this helps, E |
Thanks, I am all over it I hope to hear it purr tomorrow.
