where to start on suspention
Im pretty much satisfied with my engine being as the next thing would be to get heads, but thats way in the future for me, Also im going to get a stall, but what speed, im thinking 2500 (daily driver) next i want to start on the suspention. Where do I start? I think sub-frame connectors? but what next?

A lot of people get subframes first, which is a good idea. I started with them, then got lower control arms. I see it as replacing the weakest link at a time, cause everytime you upgrade a part there is always something else that will effect the performance of the part you just installed.

Decide what you want to do with the car before you start buying suspension stuff. Either drag racing, corner carving, or just a middle of the road kind of setup. Sub-Frames are a given no matter which way you go so get those first (I'd get full lengths). Maximum Motorsports sells some good full lengths along with everything else you'd ever want to build a corner carver from hell http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

Definitely weld subframe connectors first. Then, as a general rule, I start at the back end of the car and work forward. The stock rear suspension is very poor, and adding upgraded components will give you a rather noticeable improvement in handling.

I'm in the same situation as you Bart, here's what i'm doing first:
full length weld in subframe connectors (received yesterday) keeps weak mustang body from twisting, improves handling and launch. strut tower brace (kenny brown still en route), stiffens front chassis 8.8" rear axle upgrade (i have a 7.5") with 3.73 gears (eventually i'll get stronger axles and better posi unit) upper and lower control arms (heard it makes a huge differance in handling and traction) after that i may get drag suspension or new engine...depends on if i'm still driving it everyday. Good luck. hope these help. ------------------ '84 Mustang 5.0 LX My car |
