alright...dumb question. What did a stock 5-speed 1992 5.0L come with. Also, how can i tell if thats what i have in there now...my 5.0's shift points aren't anything like my brothers 5.0, thats why i am asking. thanks

Mine came with 3.08 but its a rag top.

Jack up the back end and support it with jack stands.
Put the tranny in neutral.
mark the u-joint and the pinion with white-out, so the marks line up.
Put a white mark on the inside of the drivers sdie rear tire.
By hand, turn the driveshaft until the mark on the tire goes around one time. Count the number of times the mark on the u-joint passed the mark on the pinion. That is your gear ratio.

For example, if the driveshaft turned just over three times to make the tire do 1 full turn, then you've got 3.08:1 gears. If it doesn't quite go 3 times, you've got 2.73's, etc. The gear ratio is how many times the driveshaft turns for one turn of the tire.

what size tires you have in back?? then we'll just need rpms at certain speeds and if your speedo is correct we should be able to help you or you could get dirty and do it like Chris told you about.
stock is either 2.73 or 3.08. some vert came with 3.27's.

My 92 GT came with 3.08's.

I love the jump to 3.73, but am sad that I can't hit 60 in 2nd gear anymore...oh well...I'm really needing that Triax now.
