Chattering errrr...... Ok now what is it?

Ok guys i am hearing a chattering at idle, sounds like the clutch but pos somthing else, it all happen from the track i thought my diff is going bad but i think it is somthing else... I am kind of leaning towards the harmonic balancer... it vibrates under aceleration, and when i hold a even rpm it really vibrates... is it possiable it is the rear end, or i was thinking pos the drive shaft being out of ballance. But now with this chattering i am leaning towards the balancer.

Any sugestions appreciated...

Thanks
Raini

Is the noise coming from the front or rear of car?

Have you checked the balancer yet? How does the rubber on it look? How does it look when the engine is running? Is it rotating true while looking at it from the side or is it wobbling? I wouldn't think it would be your driveshaft. They don't usually all of a sudden go out of balance.... Could be alot of things. Could be a fan blade missing.... Any more details?

I would be careful about driving the car anywhere until I at least figured out where the sound is coming from, ie, if it seems to be the balancer, park that baby and investigate. Don't drive it.

Chatter at idle? or riding down the road at idle?

After the track? Were you dragracing?

Throwout bearings chatter. Flexplates crack under loads and also chatter and vibrate.

sorry about that yeah it happend from the track i thought it was my gears but that would cause a vibration like i am having, i am pretty sure the vibration is the drive shaft its just i am not possitive is there anyway to check it? The balancer i guess looks fine when idling and yeah i think it is just the through out bearing chattering, its a centerforce throw out bearing i think i remember people complaining about them making noise, i guess thats ok i dont really care about that it is just this vibration that bothers me..... is it possiable that maybe one of the weights flew off the drive shaft or it got bent at the track<--- but then again i dont think they bend all that easy, the only place where i notice play is where the drive shaft meets the rear end i can turn it back and forth before my wheels even move... is that normal to have that much play in gears. like i would say an 8th of a turn i can move it back and forth.

Thanks again
sorry so long

I did my own gear install and you should be able to wiggle the driveshaft A BIT, maybe not an 8th of a turn though. If your gears were going, you'd know it from the absurd howling coming from the rear. To confirm, get up to highway speed and take your foot off the gas. A really bad gearset will howl and vibrate. If it's just vibration, I noticed you didnt list an aluminum driveshaft as 1 of your mods. I'm running 3.73's with the stock shaft and I think the car's gonna fly apart above 85, so try replacing that. I've had a balancer go before and you know it when it happens. The car SHAKES VIOLENTLY! You can see the think literally wobbling off the front of the engine, but it's easy to tell cause it will shake at idle.

Get rolling up to speed it does it the worst. Then do it again in a different gear at same speed.

If it is the same MPH in either gear its in the drive line. If its different its in the motor tranny.

i think it is the drive shaft the faster the drive shaft spinning thje worst the vibrating gets worst
