Tach Problems

My tach is stuck at about 3000 RPM when the engine is on. When off it drops to zero. I have an MSD BTM and coil and thought this was the problem. However, I bought a part MSD recommended to fix the problem and it didn't. So, I put the stock coil on and nothing changed. I then disconnected the MSD ignition so the ignition is stock and that didn't fix it. I don't know anything else to do accepet replace the guage cluster. Any ideas?

Funny, the same thing is happening to my car. I did a search to see if someone had the answer but I guess not. I'll post another thread to see if we can get any answers. It can't be your MSD, my engine is stone stock. Please let me know if you fixed this.

Try another tach to see if thats the problem.

It's the stock in-dash tach that's acting up. I'm not sure how to replace that. It started working a couple of days ago, but now it's stuck at 3,000 rpm again. I did a KOEO test, and it appears I have low voltage to my EGR sensor. Seems I found another problem that's unrelated. Oh well, that's expected of an engine with 171,000 miles on it.

Hey smokedchevy from Ventura, long time, no see! How've you been? You should stop by The Rice Haters Club sometime! I'm there everyday! I come here when time permits, but that's not very often. :(

I don't know for sure, but I suspect your tach itself is the problem. Might be a good time for an aftermarket tach. :)

Take care,
~Chris

Hey Chris how's it going? Yeah, I've been out of the racing scene for a little while, but I'm back. Still going to Ventura Race way? I hear they're trying to shut them down. Is that true? If it is, how do we protest?

PKRWUD 10-15-2004 11:55 PM

They're trying, but they haven't succeeded yet. You can protest by writing a letter to the editor at the Star.

We're still racing, and will be there tomorrow night, as well as next Saturday night. :)

smokedchevy 10-16-2004 03:00 AM

This may be a dumb question, but why a letter to the editor of the Star? Who's trying to shut the track down? The city? It's a shame when I read about local tracks getting shut down. Why don't they shut down a golf course and turn it into a drag strip!!

PKRWUD 10-16-2004 06:17 AM

It's not a stupid question at all. The track is located on the Ventura County Fairgrounds, and it's future is completely up to the Fair Board (you could write to them, too, but I don't know the address). Last year the Fair Board proposed a new design for the fairgrounds, and it didn't include a race track. In it's place they said they wanted an outdoor amphetheater for concerts and such. They figure they would make more money having a couple big name concerts a year there. Actually, they think they could get lots of big name concerts there, but you and I both know how cold it gets down there at night, even in the summer, not to mention what the traffic would do to the area. They need to raise a couple million bucks just to get it planned out, so we don't see that as an immediate threat.

Then there's the handful of idiots that write letters to the Star protesting because of the noise. One man that lived down in the marina went as far as to claim he couldn't hear his wife talking to him with their windows open when the races were going on. lol. These people are hoping that the city council will do something about it, which they could. That's why it's nice every once in a while to see letters in the paper that support the track.

People seem to forget that there has been a race track at that location, in one form or another, since the late 1800's. They also don't seem to realize what a great family environment it is. From babies to 80 year olds, male and female, you'll see them all at the track every Saturday night.

Anyway, a letter to the fair board, or to the Star, would be the best thing I could suggest right now. There was an organization formed to save the track, but I haven't heard much from them lately, and their website doesn't seem to be around anymore. You could go to the track website though and see what's up there...
