$2500 to spend

Gentlemen, I have right now $2500 to spend on my car, I would like to get the input about how to use it wisely from you guys. My car has about 120,000 miles on them. I am thinking about buy a long block from central coast mustang as they advertised for $1895, is that a good deal? I have a lot of bolt on on my car such as intake, pulley, fully exhaust, gears, tranny and so on. But then the idea about using GT40 P heads does not make me too happy about it because I have to spend money on the new headers or should i use local machine shop to rebuild my motor ? but then I only have weekend to work on the car because I need to use my car on monday (no loaner). What do you think?

Thank You

you COULD put that towards my twin turbo, just kidding. heres a serious question though. what do you plan on doing with your car in the long run? because this will help in my response to you thread.

Make check payable to:

Bradley Jones
587 Tra.....

Ahh nevermind.. I would personally get an engine done at a local shop myself.. You'll save money that way and they can tell you what works and what doesnt alot better than what some guy over the phone in another state can.. Whats customer service going to be if you should have a problem.. be alot easier to just drive down the street than crate the engine and send it back heaven forbib.. I say BUILD LOCALLY, save soem cash get some other go fast goodies..

unless your motor is ailing i wouldnt take it out. 2500 is enough for a supercharger...

and you do NOT have to get special headers for use with P heads.. big ugly rumor.. e-mail me for the secret... Bar5516@aol.com.. hehe

p heads usually go for 400
put some good roller rockers on them 225
nice intake 500
tb 200
injectors 225
nitrous kit 500

11's easy!

I'd throw a blower on it.

Or heads and cam, etc

And Brad (Bo55) is right. You don't need special headers for P heads. Drew (FiveOhPatrol) has regular Mac longtubes on his GT-40P heads.

if you have 120,000 miles on that motor, I would not stick a blower on that car at all. unless its one of those cheap powerdynes for like 6 lbs of boost. anything more on that motor and you would blow it up and have to rebuild it anyways. id go ahead and have someone build you up a nice strong short block with that $2500. get a decent stroker kit with forged crank, rods and pistons and go from their. it will be worth your money in the long run, believe me!!! However if even after the rebuild you have plans for a blower or nitrous, make sure you get a set of low compression dished pistons.

if you do get the engine rebuilt, what are your plans: i.e. stroker?

CHP sells short blocks with completely forged internals for $2600
DSS has em for around $2700

With 120k on the ticker, and seeing that you spray it, I wouid throw that money toward a fresh motor. Make sure you find a good shop to do the rebuild though. I was looking at 1500 for a stock rebuild but could have gotten a dss 306 for like 1900. Then you could later save up for some heads or boost after you have a strong foundation.

Get a turbo:D

come on.. he doesnt need a new shortblock wiht only 120k on it.. i bought a 87 gt with 125k on it.. and started spraying it since day one.. at 315k i sold it.. the valve covers were never off the motor. it was my daily driver for 5 years and only car for 4 of the 5.. and it ran 11's anytime u wanted to on the spray.

i now have a 94 GT with a 300 dollar short block in it and pull 7.2's in the 1/8th mile and low 11's in the 1/4.. i will be looking for 10's soon... and this is a daily driver too. full weight with all options.

so even if he blows up the motor.. it's no reason to pay someone big bucks to do a simple shortblock that can handle 500 horses..

so??? these short blocks are VREY durable if taken care of.. and CHEAP to build..

just ask tireburner about the power i'm putting down on this little 300 dollar 302 i built.. i bought pistons off ebay for 40 bucks... reused my rods.. found a stock crank laying in my buddies garage.. spent 100 bucks in rings and 100 bucks in arp bolts.. the rest was spent on bearings

b055 10-05-2003 08:48 PM

i not only had 315,000 miles on it but it ran 11's for 3 years almost every weekend..

the valve covers never came off the motor in it's whole life!
