need some advice

okay first question my timing in my car i have a msd distributer and i was talking to a guy that knows alot about mustangs and he told me to set my timing up so i have 12 initial and 36 advace all by 3000 rpm then when i spray it have it so my advace is about 32 degrees and initial 8 does this sound right cause up till now with my setup ive been running it at 16 with 33 advanced and 12 something like 27 28 advaced on the juice he said upping the timing is something that stock motors like but once you start putting alot of mods its not as good it can start to harm you he also said you like to have alot of advance you like it to move alot all by 3000 rpm.

Okay that was the first question here is the second talking to the same guy he told me to run my air to fuel ratio at about 11.8 to 12 he said thats healthy cause right now im using my new wideband unit from innovate motorsports and im seeing a/f ratios of about 13.5

the reason im asking these questions is because i feel my car is falling on its face upstairs i took it to the track and the best i could get out of it was 12.3 @ 108 i feel the mph is slow and on juice i went 11.3 @123 is slow this is my setup 302 bottom end 6037 heads custom cam from bennet rpm air gap intake 1.7 rr longtubes demon 650 carb 373 hd cluth tremec the car weights 2900 any advice that someone can throw at me would help greatly ive seen cars with very similar setups in magazines going mid 11's i have to be doing something very wrong.

My last ride had a carb and I ran 16 intial w/ 32 total all in by 2500. You are probably running a little to much total, but every engine is different. I wouldn't run more than 28 or even maybe 26 total on the juice. Your problably going to have to try a few different setting on each set up until you get your best time. Thats a little to rich on engine only. You want to go about 13:1

Trying pulling about 2-3 degrees out for every 50-60 hp of spray while starting around 12 to be safe, see how that works. 16 is a bit advanced for the bottle. What heat range plugs are you running?
