'87-'90 inner fender vs. '91-93' Inner fender
I know the wheel well opening on the '87-'90 fender is smaller than the '91-'93, but is the inner fender also smaller?? I'm using 17" Cobra Rims on my '89 GT and want to swap my fenders, but not sure about the inners.

I'm almost positive that the inner wheel opening are identical! 87-93 same man. Why do you think it's smaller?

I heard the 91-93 fender is a little larger to fit the pony rims
|
The wheel wells do accomadate larger tires starting in 1991. I'm pretty sure it had to do with the inner fender.
Perhaps the part number listed is just the updated part allowing for the 87-90's to have the same clearance? |
The inner fender liners are indeed a smaller size on the earlier models, BUT they will work fine in the later models. I installed a liner from an 88 or 89 in my 93, and it was noticeably a different size, but it fits with no problem, as it is very close to the other one. This information was also verified by the owner of Mustang Central, a mustang specialty shop where I bought the liner.

Mach 1, so it's only the liner that's different? Not the sheet metal?

The sheet metal is the same, it's the front ground effect peice on the GT's that is larger on the 87-91 and thats what hits the tires, when you turn them all the way. Take a look at a few different ones.

When Ford put on the Pony 16" Rims in 91 ,they already new the demize of the Fox platform..So with good insight the ford eng.new if they were going to shove this huge gigantic 16" 71/2 wide rim under the Stang they must plan for the Future .So in that sweeping thought.. The 1991-1993 Inner fender wheel was widened to except up to a 18" wheel ( to the ford Eng. 18 inch was Science Fiction in 1990)Anything under 1991 has a much smaller inerfender
