Really good race... LS1 vs Saleen... Long...
 

So I am picking my buddy up at the muffler shop yesturday morning, and I get there before he does. One of the guys comes out and starts talking to me about my saleen. Hes a total chevy guy, tellin me how he as a 9 second camaro, how 5.0's have a real trouble ever trapping over 115mph, I could tell he didnt know about mustang at all. Anyways, he says his son has a 99 Z28 that smokes mustangs all over, pulls the tires off the ground and "probably runs high 11's." And does 180mph. So I leave and do a nice big sideways burn out into 3rd.

Later that day I drive by and Lay into the car as hard as I can going sideways all the way through 2nd gear, and I see the guys son sprint out and jump in the 99 Z28 and chase after me. He catches me down the road and challenges me to a race. I reluctantly agreed, cuz I figurd **** a 11 sec car should hand me my ***, and I am on the most bald street tires ever. So we go out to the freeway and slow down to about 35mph and both hit it. To the top of 4th I put about 1.5 cars on him. I was stoked, obviously this wasnt an 11sec ls1. He demands we go from a stop. I tell him I have no tires, and cant hook for ****, bu toh well.

So we come to a stop on the 2 lane freeway. Cars start backing up behind us, couple start to honk. We nail it, and 1st gear goes up in smoke in less than a second for me. I hit 2nd gear, 6000rpm and I am going nowhere still, hes gone, atleast 5 cars ahead of me. I am just sitting there going 15mph and sideways smoking the tires like crazy. I finally hook and catch him down teh freeway. He makes a remark, how do u like being whopped by a chevy. I said, ok lets go again from a roll. So we go from a 3rd gear punch and to 6200rpm in 4th I put about 2 cars on ohim again.


We go on our way and I stop by the muffler shop later that day. He is sayin how he killed me and that I only beat him from a roll because he car "doesnt down shift" The next thing he says is that we were doing 180-190mph while racing. I thought WHAT??? I only topped out 4th gear, thats about 115 maybe 120? Obviously someone didnt recalibrate after putting in the 4.10 gears. At this point I relized their was no arguing. Anyways, he insists that he will kill me if he has better tires, and I can run any tire I want to race him. I guess he didnt realize that me pulling him on the freeway ment that my car has more power. Just wait till he sees how hard my car pulls in 1st and 2nd on slicks.

Anyways, I am wondering if I should even race him againn, he obviously has no clue at all, if he thinks we were doing 190mph. I want to show him whats up, but I think he might be so desperate to win hed do somethin crazy....

o noticed you rin 12.32, i assume this is on slicks? my best run is a 13.2 at 112 on street tires. any idea what i could be on slicks or Dr's?

Man, nice race on the bigend. I don't race morons like that from a stop because I'm in the same boat as you for traction. I'd rather pull them at high speed and not give them a chance to "think" they won. The track is a different story...VHT works wonders :)

I was thinkin of buying some Nitto 245/50/16 DR's but I wonder if they would even hook.

My car ran 14.2@107 on bald *** street tires w/ a 2.7 60' so you can see how bad it doesnt hook.

W/ 112mph you could turn a very low 12 or some high 11's if you can really drive.

Make sure he has lots of money on hand. I wouldn't bother unless it was for money.

Don't waste your money on nitto drs they don't hook as well as the bf goodrich drs. The bfgs hook almost as well as et streets but are a tens times better street tire than the et streets.

The problem is I need it for a 16" wheel, and no bigger than 245.

learn how to use the happy pedal properly and you don't need slicks.

Haha, Ive tried it everyway, my car is the worst hookin car ever. Stop by and take it for a drive. See how bad these tires are :)

I Got some nice 1.6's on slicks, but the street tires just cant handle it. I need tires that can hold a little then I could launch it.

I really need to sell these old cars and get something brand new, 1 car thats quick for a daily driver.

i know you said this guy is in his late 20's, but he acts a lot younger. what it is is he has no clue about cars. plain and simply. did he buy the car or did his dad. sounds like he acts just like his dad. i would roast him. i can't stand somebody who is bragging with NO rights.

first off, i think you OWNED that fool...

tire spin is acceptable, but going up in smoke is abuse :)
as soon as i detect tire spin, i let off the pedal until it hooks, then lay into it hard. when you are moving there is much less chance of going up a second time.

I would suggest Nitto DRs or BFG DRs. both are very forgiving...

i dropped a full second on my 1/4 mile times by changing tires to drag radials in the cobra.

what's the deal with the 4.6 Fox?
put a supercharger and 4.10s in it and you should ahve a streetable and powerful car that is unique...rare, anyway.
