flexplate interchange

I have a 69 m-code stang and I'm presently running a 302, while the 351 is being reworked. Can I use the 302 flexplate on the 351? The 302 is also a 69 vintage engine...
I've been told this will work , is it true?
Also, are the motormounts different?

thanks for the info...
AP.

I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that the 302 used a 50 oz imbalence and the 351 used a 28 oz. Therefor they would not be interchangable.

All pre-1980 small block motors used 28.2 oz plate.

Everything else after 1980 used 50 oz.

There is two different tooth size plates for small motors too. 157/164. Of which yours should be 157. Just count it to be sure.

It's a drag if you put it together and the starter won't hit anything:eek:

The flexplate wont matter because you are not changing the trans. therefore you cant change the size of the flexplate. the only thing you have to worry about is the counterbalence, if both the engines are pre 1980 there will be no problem, but you have to know what year the crankshafts are.
50 oz. for post 1980
28 oz. for pre 1980

Do you have a C4 tranny?

If it is a 1969 stock tranny you have 157 tooth
It looks like this

164 tooth tranny look like this
Note the different body's and how the bellhousings are attached

The bigger C4 with 164 tooth bellhousing are a stronger than the 157tooth C4

So if you will use a 351W it is wise to buy a 164tooth C4 because it's much stronger bellhousing and attachment to the tranny body.

The motormounts 302/351W is the same
