This Sucks
It happened about a month ago, I have been depressed every since. 40 seconds into trying to get the car to run with the turbo, I hydro-locked the engine with too much fuel and broke a piston. Considering I had just spent the last 4.5 months trying to get this turbo on, I was a little beside myself. I have another stock engine that we are preparing right now, but with winter looming, I dont think it will go till Spring. Hopefully by next winter, I will have the money to get a new D.S.S. engine.
Cause - Hydro-lock do to FMU installed backwards causing 90PSI fuel pressure. Lesson Learned - Dont try and start car if FP guage is reading 85PSI:rolleyes: http://images.cardomain.com/member_i...65_20_full.jpg |
Sorry to hear about this, Ackbar. :(
Good luck getting it worked out. You'll have her back on the road soon...and with a turbo to boot! :D Keep your head up. ;) E |
It happens to the best of us man. No worries. When you've got a badass ride with a bang load of boost running, you won't be frowning. Good luck man.

Yah, man, that REALLY sucks. Sorry to hear that. It's easy to beat yourself up for mistakes, but the truth of it all is that nobody's perfect. As mentioned b4, keep your head up. Try not to let yourself get too depressed. :) Most of us know how it is to break something (even though maybe not to the extent such as this). Sadly, but good in it's own way (experience), that's part of the muscle car hobby-- to break things :(. I'm just waiting for something to blow up in one of my cars--- one day or another :D.
Hope things work out for you and you get your car on the road. Take it easy. |
OOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! GAWD!
Dude.... I totally feel for you! That just sucks. But, yes... dumb things happen to the best of us. I've done a few in my time too, trust me. When I say I learned the hard way, I ain't kidding. best of luck over the winter! |
Thanks guys. Sucks, cause now I have to rely on my SHO to fend off the rice....
|
Crap, when you said it broke a piston, you meant it!! that thing is shattered....
Well i've done some stuff in the past id rather not talk about, :o But my first mustang, also my current one, had to be my guinea pig the first years i had it, but it's getting to be a potent little thang:D and i learned alot.... You know that turbo is waiting to be spooled to the sky:) |
Boy, that does suck.
I'll make sure I get the fuel pressure gauge installed correctly (still in box) before I fire it up again. |
You know...... if you pulled out the pushrods for the afflicted cylinder to prevent the valves from opening, unplugged the injector and cleaned the debris out, you could drive around on 7 cylinders! I've had dead cylinders so many times and the car runs ok. I'm half joking but you could seriously get away with this.
|
no way you could do that man. whats your connecting rod gonna be doing, grinding down the cylinder walls? and even if you took it off, the engine would be out of balance.
man i feel ya, but its these type of things that make us build it up stronger, especially for that boost your pushin'! |
Here is the best part, I am putting a stock 150k short block back in it:D The whole thought is, it should work, just as well as my old motor(As long as I get the FMU right:rolleyes: ) Plus, this motor has forged pistons, not Hypers. I also ordered a .4bar spring, so that is only like 6#'s. I just need it to last one season, think it will?;)
|
oh man!!!!
Your right that does suck! Dont feel too bad I just found a crack in my block so were sort of in the same boat. get drunk, it made me feel a little better.:(
