Whats up in Tennessee?
Well, Just got back from a week in Tn, visiting my g/fs family/vacationing. It was fun, we were in Pigeon Forge/Gatlingburg, did all the tourist stuff (Gatlingburg, Dollywood, and the musclecar museum in Sevierville:D etc), flew in my first helo (very cool).
How many folks here are from the area? We are looking at moving up there about middle of next year, and I was wondering what the scene was like. (I saw a lot of really nice classics roaming about, so thats a good sign). Also, I noticed in another thread, somebody mentioned that there was a lot of rice in Pigeon Forge...Where? Since last Sat, I saw less than 2 dozen of the buggers. It was heaven... Here (Tampa) you see/hear that many on a 7-11 run. Anyways, just polling for info, BTW, I loved the fact that there were a lot of A&W/Sonic/other drive in diners off the parkway. Good crusin territory:cool: I'll post pics pf the Musclecar museum as soon as Moondusted gets them scanned ('69 429, 67 GT500, GT350, etc if anyone wants to see) J *off to upgrade brakes to handle those dang mountain roads* |
I live where you vacationed at.
If you are buying a home or whatever let me know. It depends alot of where you plan on working. During tourist season (Almost all year) it could take you from several minutes to hours to get to and from work/school etc. At face value, Kodak area is where you need to be. Its the Notrhern most part of Sevier County, (Outside the mess) Convient to Knoxville etc. Kodak is the area of I-40 Exit 407 SR66. |
i live in the nooga, well above it, about 2 hr's from there, they all way's have rod run's there, there was alot of rice last time i went, jan - 03, but the ricer crap is slowly dying here, most import owner's figured it out, build the engine first, lol. it aint a bad place to live. :D :D :D :D :D :)

Well, I don't live up there, but I visit extended family kinda often in the Chattanooga/Lookout Mountain, TN area. Never really see anything eyecatching around there (in terms of cars), but seeing the hangliders at LM, TN was awesome. That's on my list of "To Do" things. I'm sure the helicopter ride was awesome. I'd love to able to fly one of those things (though I do know it's hard and takes tons of experience and patience.... more than a plane....).

Yeah, man, I'll keep that # in my wallet an give ya a call if I find myself up there in the future. Maybe you guys can show me where the domestics cruise. :) One of my "extended" family relatives is more into the imports (he kinda leans toward the ricer crowd :(), so he doesn't really know anything about where the real cars cruise. :D |
StangII: Yeah, at this point we are looking at moving up there in may of 04, you know some real estate agents?:D
I saw Kodak (or a least the church there thats visible from 40) when we were leaving. As far as working up there I'm at Home Depot right now, and would like to transfer , I guess to the Knoxville store since its closest. (According to g/f's family there is a back hightway into knoxville[?]) I want to go back to school for EMT/Fire, but I dont know where I might end up working. Crazy Horse: We'll have to get all the locals together for a cruise sometime  Fox: Yes, the chopper ride was killer, though I will say it was rather disconcerting whe the pilot kept taking his hand off the cyclic control to play with the chrono, etc. Hanggliding would be cool too, I just dont know if I would have the guts, LOL, J |
Im about 15 minutes from The Home Depot on I-640. Thats the bypass around Knoxville. Lowes<eh, are all over here too, but I don't like them.
Sevier County has the cheapest property tax in the whole state I think. Because of the tourist dollar that comes in. Also you get discounts into the shows/food/stores etc for being a Sevier County resident. That RULZ! Their are plenty of EMT things here. If you get certified I can find you a job. There are alot of school options for that field around. On the cruising sceen. There are Rod Runs almost every weekend of the summer. These are national events. So its all here. The big Rod Runs attract several thousand cars a weekend. Some unreal rides. Floyd Garret (musle car museum) wants me to park the Cobra in there, lol. When its time I don't care to find some houses around for your family to look at. Trust me when I say the Kodak area is the place. |
Yeah, I think I am going to try to stay at the depot at least until I can get situated, and into school. Moondusted looking into police/fire dispatch jobs up there too, (except Gatlinburg, since dispatchers are also C/O's).
The longer I'm back here the more I want to get the heck back out. :D Something about 90degrees in Nov just aint right. The cruises sound hellawicked, I heard about some of them when we were there. I'll let you know as things firm up, Thanks for the info/advice:cool: Jorge |
