My Mustang - Need HELP!
Hope you can help me to settle a dispute I am having with my boyfriend! I've looked all over the Internet and can't really find the information I am looking for.
I own a '95 Mustang GT (5.0) and my boyfriend says the new 4.6 GT Mustangs are faster. Is this true? Which car has more horsepower? And what size engine does each one have? Can anyone help? Thanks! |
I think it would depend on what year the 4.6 liter would be. The reason that the 95 GT's are slower is because they are so damn heavier than the previous 5.0's but the will handle better than the older fox's. I believe that the 96-98 series mustangs were lacking quite a bit of power, so it would be a tough call on those years. If your 95 is stock and the other mustang is a 99-01 series, you will most likely be in some trouble. Hope this helps!

The new 4.6 GTs are much faster. I've been in a couple of them and they haul a$$.
Oh yeah, they also make 260 HP from the factory. You're 95 GT makes 225 HP from the factory. ------------------ Eric - 89 Mustang LX coupe 302 - Cobra Intake - GT40p heads - TFS stage 1 cam - FRPP 1.6 roller rockers - Naturally Aspirated 3.73 gears - KYB shocks and struts - Eibach springs - HPM Mega-bite Jr lower control arms - HPM upper control arms |
stock 5.0s will beat 4.6s from 1996-1998..usually, unless the 5.0 is an automatic and the 4.6 is a manual, then it might be abot even. Starting 1999 and up, different heads and intake design upped the power level signifigantly, and they will beat most bone stock 5.0s. However, it wouldn't take many bolt-ons to make the 5.0 be equal to or faster than the new 4.6, considering the 5.0 is a 5 speed.

Oops, forgot to answer your other question. the 5.0 liter is 302 cubic inches, and the 4.6 liter is 281 cubic inches. most 5.0s are 225hp, and 96-98 4.6s are like 215hp, where 99 and up are 260, save for the 4.6 cobra. Cobras have 305 to 320hp, depending on year.

The 94-95s are a little slower than the 87-93, cause they are 200 lbs heavier. The 87-93 were rated at 225 horsepower and 300ft/lbs, and the 94-95 215/300, although it was the same engine. The 96-98 mustangs were rated at 225hp, but it was out of the 4.6l engine, so there was less torque, and the hp came much higher in the rev range so they were even slower. THe 99+ mustangs are rated at 260/300 and are a little faster than an 87-93 5 liter.
