I nEeD HeLp!!!

I need info about the brands of x-pipes and which are best for my stang. I have a 03 GT and I'm looking for a deep sound. I just want to know which brand is best and the prices....thanks everyone!!:D

surfbeast 11-18-2003 10:12 AM

Prices vary widely depending on if you want Off Road pipes or Catted pipes. You can pay as little as $150 on e-bay for a set with no cats or as much as $550 for a set of Bassani with cats. If price is no problem go with a set of Bassani or Borla and their cat back system also to complete the set-up. If you don't have aftermarket mufflers the X pipe wont change the tone much. You can also check the net and find an exhaust tone site that has the actual sounds of just about every exhaust set-up.

Good luck

you getting long tube headers or short tube? Catted or not catalitic converters.

Some brands to look at Bassani, MAC, Hooker, and BBK.

GTvert 11-18-2003 04:25 PM

I bought the BBK offroad full length X-pipe. It gave the car a much deeper sound than it had stock. The sound with the stock mufflers is quite a bit louder than it was originally. The x-pipe bolted up easily, unlike some of the cheaper ones I bought in the past. I just upgraded the rest of the exhaust to 2 1/2" and added magnaflows. It has a deep sound, and is fairly loud. Without the cats though, you have to make sure it has been inspected before hand if you have to in your state.

If you aren't going to run cats, I've seen a lot of dyno's lately that would make me fork up the dough for a Dr. Gas X-pipe.

Assuming you live in an emissions restricted area (like Dallas),
my recommendation would be a Bassani X-pipe with cats and your choice of cat-back system...

oohsoobad2 11-19-2003 01:22 AM

x-pipe

i decided to spend the extra $$$ and get the catted Bassani x-pipe... i love the sound and all was well except that the convertors were shot in less than three months. i had actually had the part a few month b4 the install, so Bassani would not offer any warranty,so i gutted the cats and bought a chip to turn off the MIL light... so too sum it up.. i spend $479 on the catted x-pipe, $60 on elminators(which didnt work) and finally $350 on a chip... and ended up with an off-road pipe anyway...

Sxy03GTGirl 11-19-2003 10:30 AM

Thanks for all the info!! Is the a difference in the noise of a car w/ cats and a car w/o cats?

The Deuce 11-19-2003 10:52 AM

Don't skimp.

Dr. Gas...

Best performance, custom fit and people will always ask what mid pipe you have, because it sounds sick!

GTvert 11-19-2003 10:56 AM

The non-cat is definitely going to be louder. It's not real loud inside the car unless you have the top down. I guess I'm running out of days this year for that option though.

Thanx guys for all the info... I'm looking at bassani or MagnaFlow x-pipes...let me know if I'm making the right choice.;)

GodStang 11-20-2003 11:09 AM

Nice car!! Those are both good pipes. You are in the right direction

Titan 11-20-2003 12:40 PM

I personally don't like the sound of a catless car. My dad's car has an off-road x-pipe and it sounds really good cruising, but when you get on it, the car sounds obnoxious at high RPM's. Some people like it, not for me, though

91LX2Bfast 11-20-2003 01:35 PM

IMHO, my brother's 99GT with the Bassani o/r X and 2 chamber flows sounds obnoxiously loud also. I am afraid of romping on the car on the street for fear of every cop within 2 miles hearing me. I think with different mufflers it would be much better though.
I have duals w/ no cats, a Dr. Gas style x-pipe, and Dynomax mufflers (the quiet one's) and it is hardly anywhere near as loud as his. Nice deep and mellow, but hardly loud or annoying.
So just be thoughtful of your muffler choice when running an offroad pipe.

Sxy03GTGirl 11-21-2003 09:31 AM

Thanks GodStang!! After I buy the x-pipe... I'm gonna get headers. Is it better to get the same brand of headers and x-pipe. Or is there not difference.:D

ac97gt 11-21-2003 11:06 AM

its all personal opinion... i have flows with catted bassani x and its not even close to as loud as i thought it would be/wanted it to be. it sounds great, dont get me wrong, but the loudness that i was expecting just wasnt there. it had flows first, and adding the catted bassani BARELY changed the sound. didnt make it any louder really, just a bit throatier. i did notice a power increase in higher rpms with it though, which was nice. ive never heard flows with an o/r bassani, but thats what my next car is gonna get because everyone says its "too loud" and my car could never be loud enough. its all in what you want, everyones opinions of loud are very different.

GodStang 11-21-2003 11:25 AM

Alot of people get the same headers as mid pipe but their is really no benfit to do it. You can mix and match headers and mid pipes.

GTvert 11-21-2003 11:34 AM

I was going to get headers when ford warranteed my engine.I figured while the engine was out, I could put them on.That was until I checked the price of them. The $ per hp just wasn't that impressive to me.I bought an NX kit for about the same price and got a lot more horsepower.

GodStang 11-21-2003 12:18 PM

it is all about opinion and future mods. If you want sound or plan on putting a supercharger on later headers are not a bad Idea. If you just want bragging speed now and do not plan on a SC then N20 is a way to go. Headers are not always about HP now. They can get you bigger gains in the future. Just depends on your plans for the car.

Morgstang 11-22-2003 12:38 PM

Magnaflow catted x...ive got that with 2 chamber flows and the sound is wonderful. You still keep the deep flowmaster sound with no popping or raspiness. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
