Tire Size?
 

I apologize in advance for my ignorance, but what does it exactly mean when a tire says 245/45. I have a 250/40 17" on my 99 gt with cobra rims. i am looking in to getting new tires and was wondering if I have to get 250/40's to fit my wheels? Thanks for the help.

you should be able to fit 255/40/17 sized tires.the first number in the size (255)is the width of the tire tread measured in millimeters.by the way tire width always end in 5s never 0s Ex. 255,265,275. the second is the aspect ratio.It is the percentage of the height treadwidth of the sidewall.The sidewall height is 40
percent of the width of the tread.obviously the last is the rim size

My Pace Car wheels had tires with a width ending in 0. 220/55R390 - damn metric crap.
