Ok WTF! "8.8 rear end"

The coupe I recently purchased was supposed to have 3.73 gears in it. I purchased the car as a rolling chasis so I towed it home. I have completed the engine and tranny and decided to jack up the rear end and change the gear oil and check to see if it really had 3.73 gears.

If you jack up the rear and turn the tire one turn you can count how many revolutions the drive shaft makes to figure out your gear ratio.

If you do this to a car with stock gears the drive shaft will turn 2 and 3/4 turns.

The problem is my drive shaft doesnt even make 2 complete rotations if you rotate the tire once.

I had some friends come over and check it out to make sure I wasnt crazy. They were tripping out as well when I showed them.

Anyone know WTF!!! Surely my car doesnt have less than a 2.0 gear ratio.

If one wheel is staying still and one is turning one rotation, the driveshaft will turn half of what it should. turn both wheels one rotation and count the driveshaft revs. Sounds like the clutches in the traction loc part of the rear end are not good if one wheel can turn and the other can't. But yeah, both wheels have to turn to get the right number of turns at the driveshaft.
