Capri?
This is sort fo off the topic of windsor mustangs but I am currious. How hard would it be to swap a 302 in for the v6 in the first gen Capri's? The car is superduper light; around 2200-2500 lb with a v6. I have heard stories about them puttin up some competition to vette's and Camaro's in stick or near-stock form. So how bad would one of these be with a mild 302 or mabye a 351?

ok, first off: capri == mustang
any mods that you can do to a mustang can be done to a capri. Second, how the hell is your car so ******* light? did you take out all the interior? An engine swap is a big job, but is totally possible, though expensive (prohibitively in my case http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif ). I'd say if your gonna do it, go all out and do the 351. |
Are you talking about the early-mid 70's capris? In '79 the Capri was changed to be a mirror of the mustang but before that they were V6 powered, light economyish cars. I don't think i've ever seen one in person, but then again i've never really looked. In pictures they look pretty damn light, so i think you're right about them being very light weight. According to alldata those capris were made from 1970 to 1975 and the capri II was made from '76 to '78. I don't know the differance so i can't be of much help. Basically anything that lightweight with a solid V8 can be made to compete with Camaros and Corvettes, but it all depends on how it's set up and how you're racing (drag, autocross, road racing, etc.). And yes according to Alldata, they came with the 2.3L 4 and the 2.8L V6.

I just assumed you were talkin about the fox body capri's which, as i sai, are mustangs. What year is your capri? If it is a fox (79-93) then its easy to do.

I worked with a guy whos buddy did this, i dont know what year, but they made those from 73-78??? Anyways I never had a chance to see under the hood but what he had said was.
1)engine was really hard to fit. 2)blew up stock rear axle almost immediatly 3)couldnt fit large enough tires in the wheel wells. Basically, he said it was alot of work for a car that handled very poorly and didnt have the traction to make use of the power. It sounded like it was kind of a hacked together job so maybe it could be done to work alot better. But I can see where it would be hard to get the thing to handle with that much weight up front in a car so light. What about a supercoupe v6? Still alot heavier than the little 2.8 |
