How big a wheel can I get for a 1990?
 

I'm looking into buying new wheels and am not sure how large I can go. I believe the stock size is 15X7. Can I go to a 17 X 9 (still keeping the 4 lug pattern) with the only adjustment needed is the size of the tire? Concerned about any problems with getting a larger wheel. Anybody know if Ford has a web site that addresses this question? Thanks.

My buddy went with seventeens on his car with no problem. A good wheel shop will help you with the offset and tire size. You just have to remember that it may affect your speedometer. You may have to roll your fenders if you get a wide tire.

I have 17x9s all around on my 90 coupe and it is lowered about 1.5". They are factory cobra r's (5 lug). I'm running 255/40/17 up front and 275/40/17 out back. I had to eliminate the quad shocks and they run close to my tailpipes. They only rub the wheelwells if I ride people in the back. Hope this helps

I have 17x9's at all corners. Turning is now limited, but I know when it will start to rub and it really doesn't present any driveability issues for me.....these cars never turned too sharp to begin with anyways.

I'm looking to get a set of Cobra R's in 17x8 front/17x9 rear from AFS wheels. I was checking out tire specs and the 255/45 for the rear and 245/45 front seemed like the best sizes, the 255/45 still being 26.1'' rather than 25-25.5 like most the other sizes (fronts were about 25.6). Anyone running these sizes? Pics?????

I'm looking to get the 95 Cobra R's in 17X8 with 4 lugs. It should be a direct fit. I'm not sure about the tires. I'm hoping 235/55's all around will fit without having to eliminate the quad shock. anyone know? thanks.

I don't know about the 235/55's, they're 27.3'' diameter which will be pretty tall, especially for the front. Even the 235/50's are 26.6''. I had 255/50 16's on my GT for a while which are 26'' dimeter and about 9'' wide tread, they just barely fit and rubbed when I first put them on until I flattened out a part of the inside of the wheelwell (small bump towards the frontside of the rear tires). Go on tirerack.com and look at tire company's specs, they have tread/section width/dimeter/etc. for each size so you can see what'll match up best.

i would say 245/45's will fit, but you may want to check with someone else on that.
