Where is the data cable in an 03 convertible?
I'm trying to find the data cable to tap into for a line out converter, to add a sub to my car. I used to have a 96 hardtop, and the amps were right under the rear speakers, but i just got a 03 convertible. With the speakers on the side panels, i'm not sure where the amps/data cable is. Is it under the speakers, behind the seat? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I greatly appreciate the reply, however, that is the install i've been following. The problem is, it's for a hardtop, not a convertible. I used to have a 96 hardtop, which this would have been a sinch for (i had it wired to the h/u though originally).
I ended up finding out (through plenty of excess panel removing) that the "data cable" for the convertible is accessible by simply removing the rear seats (just the seat part, not the back). From there, it's a super easy to wire as well. I am having one last problem though. I ran the remote lead/turn-on wire to the fuse box, and wrapped the wire around one prong of the 30A fuse listed in my owner's manual as being for the "mach 460 subwoofers" which i assume to be the rear speakers. My amp is now on (and incidentally doesn't "thump" loudly when changing radio stations or back and forth between radio and cd), but the problem is that it stays on even after the key is taken out of the ignition. Can someone tell me (by name, or number from the owners manual?!?) a fuse to tap into which will turn on and off correctly? i read some other threads which mentioned tapping into an empty accessory slot. Would this even work? What size fuse? any empty slot? Thanks if anyone can help! |
Just find a fuse or wire that's that's only on when the key is on and tap into that. One should be easy to find with a multi-meter or test light.

Check this out. --Peripheral Low Voltage Trigger-- You can get it at Sounddomain.com or local your local Peripheral dealer. It lets you use speaker voltage as your amp turn on. Works great and you don't have to worry about finding a good power source.

Hey, that looks great. Thanks for the reply. I think i'll end up getting one of those. btw, where do you tap into the speaker voltage? (i'm a bit of a novice) Where i've got my cable running right now, to a fuse called the "mach460 subwoofers" fuse?

It's pretty simple. Find a positive speaker wire. You tap one wire of the low voltage trigger to the positive speaker wire and the other wire on the low voltage trigger goes to the amp turn on. It conversts the low voltage of the speaker wire to 12V for the amp turn. You can mess it up-plus it comes with instructions.

So i ended up leaving that remote turn on lead wire connected to the fuse box to an inappropriate fuse, and it drained my battery. I decided to take it out at that point, the mach 460 is good enough. I put it all up on ebay if anyone's interested:
