i need some advise on cats!!
I recently cut the cats out of my G.T. Now I am running straight through exhaust. I have a strong smell of smoke inside the car and I know it is because i don't have the cats. I also notice that when I floor it I look behind and I see alot of smoke. What should I do? Should I leave them off or should I put them back on? they were hi-flo cats. Please answer back...specially if you have done this. another question is...Did I pick up any horses by doing this? I love the awesome sound it emmits but i don't like the smell!!!! thanks ooh yeah it also backfires sometimes..is it because I took them off also????? I hope so. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/frown.gif

So, are you basically running open headers now? Or did you just gut the cats and it still goes back through the exhaust system?

So you basically piped it out huh? Cool. I think mustangs should have an package called the "sweet package" from the factory which would include the sweet sound of offroad exhaust. Anyway, about the smoke...you might be burning oil...leaky piston rings??? The backfires are normal as I also have them and they sound VERY loud with my 3-1/2" tips. I think it could be caused by the pressure buildup in your engine due to the combustion process not being complete in there. It happens with cats on too, but since you have them off, they cant muffle the sound...BANG!!!...did I scare yuh http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif
