Cooling a 347
I wanna buy a new water pump and some dress up parts for my new engine which is a 347 but very mild not to crazy just had a great deal on a 347 block but installed gt40p heads and 65mm TB, get the idea anyways I was looking into getting a chrome OEM water pump from jegs along with all new hoses, does this sound good?

That should be fine. I honestly don't think the stock water pump is the weak link in the cooling system.... it's the puny stock 2 core radiator.
|
I agree. Summit has some really cheap (around $180) 31x19 2 core aluminum rads that would solve all of your cooling problems. I have the Griffin 31x19 and my cooling capacity increased a TON, still with a stock water pump, fan and underdrives.

Ditto on ther puny radiator.
I stuck in a Griffin generic NASCAR-series (took some modifying of brackets). But that thing just palin old rocks! See my Engine link for install write-up. |
Well I live by the steeda factory down here and I got one they use, which I belive is 3 row and much bigger then stock, its less then a year old.

Any auto parts store will carry a 3 core replacement for your 2 core. Mine costed 150 bux from autozone.

my underdriven stock replacement water pump keeps my car perfectly cool even on the hottest days
I've got a 18" electric fan and a 3row brass pep boys radiator, and a 180* thermostat btw, its also a 347 with P heads -Drew |
I always wonderd why your car was so fast. Now I see, its a 347.
|
hehe, yeah
although it should be atleast .2-.3 faster as it sits. My T-5 is falling apart, and I can't powershift it. Suspension needs a little attention too. I'm going to be rebuilding the tranny, and adding some adjustable upper control arms to help launching some. (pinion angle right now is about 6 degree's too high!) then its time to spray my way into the 10's :D |
