Break Squeal!?
I recently changed my break pads... as a matter of fact I changed them in November... Why in the world they are churping a little bit when I first hit the breaks! its driving me crazy is there anything I can do??

There is a whole bunch of reasons for sqeaky brakes. Not even going to go there. I will tell you a couple of the "tricks of the trade". Some people say this is hacking up your brakes and some people think its awsome, you decide.
1) You can get a spray can of "stop squel" (generic name) from an auto parts store and spray it on the back side of your pads. 2) You can also take your brake pads off and sand the outer edges down with sandpaper or bench grinder. I use the grinder due to speed and I know how much I want off a certain area. I do all edges and even brake pads with the center groove. I also lighty sand the rotors and the entire pad as well. When grinding or sanding the edges down, just do enough to take the edge out of it. (round it off, or put a 10 degree angle or so on the edge.) I believe Bendix does this standard, on there premium line of brake pads. 3) Buy new set of brake pads 4)All the above I did this on all of my "come backs" for squeky brakes. I have had great results doing this with no problems, but I was also shown how by my fellow mechanics. It is hard to describe on this foroum but hopefully you get the idea. Good luck and any questions feel free to PM me. |
There are also certain types of brake pads that are ceramic and they do not squeal.
