Amp keeps shutting speaker off
Ok I've got an alpine mrp-m350 running 2 ohms on an alpine type r 10. The speaker is supposed to hold 300/rms and the amp pushes 350. The problem is if I turn the amp past half way it shuts the speaker off like it's got thermal overload protection or something. Any ideas on gettting this to stop? Thanks

How many ohms is the sub wired?
Has it got 2 ohm voice voices or 4 ohm? -Josh, aka the tireburner |
Dual 4 ohm running 2ohms.

Seems like I sometimes have similar problems with my amps if I try to run them out of spec. Like if the input signal (4v for my deck) is way too hot in conjunction with having the amp gain maxed. 2 ohms is pretty low, I'm not familiar with your amp but most amps I know of don't run very well at that rating.

RageGT a friend of mine was having simmilar problems a while back. I'll talk to him today and see what his problem was. Cause I'll admit right now I'm stumped. -Josh, aka the tireburner |
haha Tireburner, I know. My amp doesn't clip at all with the gain maxed and the deck at a moderate volume though, I don't run it there btw. I was just trying to give an analogy of running out of spec.

I'm not exactly understanding this.......
But to me it just seems like your amp is either: A.) Trying to do to much and shutting down....... B.) Overheating -Will |
it's confusing me too. It's acting like it's wired up 1 ohm or something. Are you SURE it's wired up 2 ohm and not one ohm?
|
Yeah I've got the speaker itself wired parrallel for 2ohms. I tried the amp on a 4 ohm premier and it was fine. I'm starting to think alpine v-power amps are just junk. I finally got it where it would run with the gain at 75% but now if the bass boost turned up it still cuts out when really hard bass hits. If circuit city hurries up and drops the price on the similar v12 I'm just gonna swap it out and hope it works out better. Thanks
