Do Springs or shocks/struts die first??

Hey, I've never done any suspension work myself, but amd working on preparing my car this year for autocrossing, and realized my daily driver's suspension is way loose. Can someone please tell me .. on average ... is it normally the Springs that are dead or the Shocks/Struts that are dead when the car sinks and bounces so much?? I don't want to put a bunch of work into my daily driver and replace both if they don't need it. tHanks.

i'd say its your shock/struts. they basically do all the work, the spings just set the ride height and are the backbone of your suspension. but if your going to be autocrossing, i think you'll need to replace the stock springs anyways....

Yes, I'm replacing everything on my Mustang, and since I have no experience with suspension work before, and my Neon (daily driver) is kinda dead on the sponges, I was looking for the cheapest route w/o replacing everything. Thanks alot thoguh!

from what ive heard springs never wear out. But i could be wrong.

sure can wear out after a while. But they do break, I'll send you 3 of the 4 that were broken on my car, lol.

Like ghetto pop said springs set the rid height. shocks/struts only resposibility is to control the movement of the springs.

Springs wear out after your shocks/struts start failing. The key to not having to replace all of them at the same time is to just replace the shocks when they are worn.
