Help! Are the plugs located on the front of my heads for emissions??

I got a set of Edelbrock Performer heads pt# 6039 and I see a set of threaded plugs on the front under the "Edelbrock" inscription on the head. Both heads have one of these threaded plugs. I assume that they are for the air/smog pump or bracketing. If they are for the smog pump system, can I get away with plugging them and running no smog pump. I live in Mass. and we have no under the hood visual test, but I need to be able to pass the sniffer dyno. Thanks

The holes toward the front get plugged with those inserts so that you can bolt on the alternator bracket and AC/steering bracket. The holes on the back are for the thermactor system (air pump).

It will be difficult to pass the sniffer test without an air pump and cats. The air pumped to the cats is necessary for them to work correctly and if they aren't working correctly, they'll eventually get clogged.

Damn! That really sucks because I don't have any swap parts. The car I built my motor for is a 93GT and it had no engine or tranny when I bought it. So naturally I need to buy everything. I live in Massachusetts and I can get a waiver for the emissions part of the inspection if I can prove that I spent over 300.00 bucks trying to get the car to pass. Maybe I should just run no smog pump, fail the sniffer dyno, and locate a smog system from a boneyard. I'd hate to think what a Ford dealer would charge for the complete emissions system...ouch! On the other hand...what if I just ran a hose from my smog pump to the cats....would it hurt the cats??

There are a billion people on this site who have taken that stuff off their cars. Maybe one of them will step up to the plate and offer you it cheap.
