Question on Idle air control valve

I have an 01 mustang GT. We I started it this morning the engine ran as long as i gave it gas. If I let of the gas it wouldnt idle it would just shut off. I assume that my IACV got stuck.

Question: Where is it located; and what can I do maintenance wise to fix it or prevent it from happening again.

Thanks for all of your help!

The valve is on the front of the upper plenum in has a electrical connection going into it and a vacume line running from it to the intake line. Make sure that hose is sucured on both ends. If it comes loose the car will die. Very easy to replace if that is the problem but I bet the hose is just loose.

Good Luck

One thing you can do is if its sticking (carbon built up on the plunger) it will do that as well. You can take it off and physically free it with a pick, screwdriver or other poking tool. Also to keep it from happening again (if it is carboned up) you can use carburetor cleaner to clean it out. Let the cleaner soak in for about 10 minutes and then dump it out.
