255lph pump to big??
 

Would a 255lph fuel pump be to big for my current combo? Im in need of a new pump and i got a line on one for real cheap. In the near future i plan on hollowing out the cats, and putting on a bigger TB and 1.7 rrs. I do have an AFPR already.

I would have to say yeah, its overkill for your combo but that doesnt really matter. Just keep the pressure low enough and you should be fine. All that 255lph means is thats what it is capable of flowing should your engine demand it.

I agree with stang_racer. Put in the 255. It will be there to grow with your mods.

I triple that resonse, no such thing as to much pump with a return style fuel system (like mustangs have up to 99). I had a 255lph in my car when I had your level of mods and it grew with me for years.

Be careful with the 255 lph fuel pump. I had one in my '89 GT for about a week before i removed it. The return line back to the tank was a restriction and caused it to run at 85 psi, i checked - no kinks in lines, no obstructions and not plugged in tank, the fuel pressure regulator was fine, i put back in the 110 lph and it ran back at 40 psi (initially 30 psi because i tried to cut back on the 255 lph pump). It may for some reason just happened to me :confused: but the car ran fine after removing the 255lph pump. The 1/4" return line is fairly small going back to the tank, you may be wasting your money.
You car may run fine, but mine didn't.

I just installed the BBK 255lph pump on my car. Everything works great, used all stock fuel lines. No probs with fuel pressure, holds right at 41psi (adjustable reg).

84LX89GT, that is strange I have never heard of that before. I would guess something was wrong with the pump. There should be no way that the return line was your restriction.

I disconnected the line at the fuel pump return for the return line, still 85 psi, i inspected the lines for kinks and couldn't see any, i disconnected the return line at the fuel pressure regulator and ran a hose to a tank of gas and fuel pressure dropped back down to 31 psi (after trying to lower pressure with it running at 85psi). I've heard of quite a few people running those pumps without problems, but as soon as i installed it the fuel pressure wouldn't come down and as soon as i put the old one in it ran fine. I didn't change anything else like the fuel pressure regulator, lines or pickup. Maybe there was a spot of rust in the line or a kink i didn't see, but that was just my experience with that pump. Who knows :confused:

Yeah I would say you have some restriction in the line.

I put the 190 in my car, but the return line was screwed up in the process and it costs $87.00. I am planing on replacing it with fuel inj. quality rubber fuel line and hose clamps.

Is this a safety hazard?

According to NHRA rules you can only have 12" of rubber hose.

Just to update. I put in the 255 lph fuel pump and the pressure is great. with the AFPR i set it at 39 psi. Thanks again to everyone for the advice.

I have the stock line and I have no use for it since I am putting a fuel system in the car for $10 bucks shipped you can have it.
