Mustang 5.0 GT conv questions

The dash lights, headlights and tail lights blink...what could cause them to do that?

The interior light does not come on either...is that a fuse issue?

stang_racer20 03-13-2004 04:31 PM

Well what do you mean they blink? When does it happen?

tireburner163 03-13-2004 05:37 PM

Check the engine ground strap. The one that goes from the firewall the the motor. It should go into the back of the cylinder head

The blinking occurs randomly, today it started after putting in the new battery. I thought that maybe it was the alarm system possibly because when i hit the trunk release button it will stop, but even that is random. As far as the interior dome light, that has not never worked since the car has been in my possesion.

I had a very similar problem one time. Turned out my positive wire to my alarm was loose on the battery and would jump around against the terminal causing my lights to flash all wierd. Might wanna check it out!

Thank you for all the useful info, i will take a look.

Now, as far as the interior dome type light not coming on, could that be an issue with the fuses?

CONVGTMUSTANG 03-14-2004 01:55 PM

I'm having sorta the same problem. My emergency flashers and map lights are not working. The wiper motor is staying on, even with the switch being in the off position. I tried replacing the muti function switch and the motor. I hoped this would solve the problem, but it didn't. There is an old alarm system installed in the car. I think/hope that this could be the problem. I'll also check to see if the ground strap is on properly. Hopefully this will solve my problem and yours too. I'll let you know.

Is anything else not working period right now? Always check the fuses first as thats the easiest check to electrical issues.

Ok, let me list the stuff that's not working at the moment.....the passenger door lock does not work, both drivers side and passenger side windows seem a little jerky as they go down, the small window on drivers side does not go down at all, the one on passengers side goes down, but sluggish.....the convertible top seems a little sluggish going down and up, passenger door when closed does not close all the way, seems to bounce back a bit as if it was not closed all the way, dome lights of course do not come on. Not sure if these things need replacing or if they are just fuses.

To tell you the truth man most of that stuff just sounds like you have a 14 year old car.

Door lock actuators go out all the time on fox bodies, and the power windows were never steller to begin with. Stuff like top cylinders just plain wear out.

Does anyone know if repair/replace of these things is an expensive project or not? I'm trying to guage what my cost is going to be. Any info/suggetions would be helpful.

50 resto...

www.50resto.com

door actuators - $40 from Ford, cheaper from 50resto ($70 for 2!)
window motors - depends, whole motor kit (2) is $150 but most of the time you just need the nylon bushing which is $5 in a rebuild kit in any auto parts store.

top cylinders - I paid $10 for a used one at a junk yard.
top motor - $90 used at same junk yard

all very easy to replace...
