Actually, I think it may be a little more than 5 hp. I've heard that it takes approx 15 hp to run the AC (when the compressor is on) and I'm not sure about the smog pump.
The way I look at it, the power it takes to turn these accesories will be better utilized by the rear wheels. Good luck! ------------------ 91 Coupe with fresh rebuild. Stock T-5 and 3.73 gears. Big Blue Bottle on it's way!!! Best time so far = 60'=2.021, 1/8=8.366 at 86.37 mph and the 1/4 was 12.926 at 108.94mph. |
According to my 5.0 FORD DYNO TEST book (pg.7), they bypassed the smog and A/C on a stock 302. The only gain was 3 hp. There are other ways to gain more hp and stay cool.

If I am not mistaken at WOT the AC compressor cuts off. That would explain the 3HP likely being the smog pump alone. The AC would take about 20HP but nothing at WOT. I think http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif
