HMMMM..... I dont know about a one wire hookup alternater but I recently installed a 3g alternator wich is a 95 mustang alternator. It was pretty simple and does a good job.

Not to mention I got it for 30 bux off of ebay.

hey dark i looked at them too. question, did the stock wires hook right up and did you have to put a bigger wire to the cylinoid, also did it bolt right up or did you have to do a little bit of grinding down. thanks

I did the swap for my 88 GT with a 3G too. So why not with your 86.

I used these HOW TO to help me in my project.

AMP Alternator Upgrade

Amp Alternator Project

AMP 3G "small Case" Alternator

Anyway i installed a Mach 460 sound system from a 2000 stang in my 88 without any problem.

Stangs are easy to work on.

You have to grind your mounting bracket a little bit....Not much.

You have to runa 4 gauge power wire from your solenoid. And you have to cut a few wires but it is pretty damn easy.

Took me an hour and I took my time.
I got my battery in the trunk and I am running a big @ss electric fan and the alternator does a great job.
