Is Explorer LOWER intake same as cobra/GT-40?
Need to know before I buy & I'm not sure if it flows the same?
A cobra upper will fit it right? |
Yes they are the same. The only difference is the Explorer doesnt have the hole drilled for the intake air temperature sensor compared to the GT40 one which does. You can relocted the sensor in the air cleaner if you want or drill and tap the hole where the boss is.

I have a ported explorer lower with a cobra upper.
I just relocated he ACT sensor to the air intake tube. If you decide you want to tap the hole it is 3/8 pipe thread. |
The 95~97 Explorer intakes have the ACT boss in the #5 runner cast in them which makes drilling and taping easy (9/16" drill, 3/8" NPT), the 98+ intakes do not have the ACT boss and the runner walls are kinda thin for mounting the ACT, so just relocate it if you get one of those.

ACT Relocation?
Is there any performance gains to relocating the ACT sensor? I have heard people say that relocating it to the intake tube gives a better reading of the actual air temp than being in the intake manifold where it is a lot warmer. Any truth to this? It kind of makes sense, but you would think that the factory would account for the extra heat in the manifold.

The act sensor is in the air intake tube on the newer stangs from the factory.
I mainly relocated mine cause I didnt want a restriction in the 5 runner. I think it gets a better reading in the air intake tube but it doesnt help enough to were you would notice it. |
