Car running rich?
So far I have put in a new 180* thremostat , autolite #24 spark plugs, msd cap and rotor, o2 sencor, air filter . It runs alot better, though it still feels rich. It will rip in fist gear then it dies out in second?? I was thinking I might have a leaky injector, sometimes I can smell fuel. And would a adj fuel regultor help, and where should I set it to on a s/c 9lb 5.0?? Thanks

Not the cheapest but the easiest way to fix it would be to get a chip burned.
Or you could go to a dyno and tweek your fuel pressure. It is just hard to tune a supercharged car without the aid of diagnostic equipment. |
Have you pulled the plugs to confirm it is running rich? Post a pic if possible. You can decrease the fp after you confirm it is rich, then check the plugs to see the difference.

I will pull one of the plugs today. I do not know if i can post a pic but i will try.

running rich
are you still running the fmu that came with the supercharger kit if so you are definitely rich its made to make 19 lb injectors work with the charger you probably need to ditch it if u are using it and put on a dyno and have a chip burned by the way a dry shot hits really hard on a rich running car

Yes, I am going to ditch the fmu that came with the powerdyne, Yesterday i bought a adjustable fuel regulator and gauge. What psi should I have the regulator set to with 24lb injectors??
|
Alright, I put every thing on. I first set it to 40 psi, Drove it still feels rich but I knowticed at the top end(above 4,000 rpm) it feels like its not getting anough fuel or like the clutch slips sometimes, but it is a new clutch so i do not thick thats it. Then I put it at 35psi, felt about the same, then at 45psi and it got worce?? and is more fuel presure= richer or leaner?? Could my fuel pump be bad, if so how do i check? And could a leaking injector do this??? thanks
|
When you said you "ditched" the FMU, does that mean you reclaibrated it for the 24lbs? I really hope that doesn't mean you just are not using one now.
|
when I talked to a mechanic at dugan racing he said to get rid of it, or just plug it off. What does it do and where do you think I should have my fuel presure set at??
|
The FMU steps up the fuel pressure in a specific ratio. It supplies the extra fuel you will need under boost. You can also get a stand alone fuel system that will do that for you, without the FMU. That feeling above 4000 rpm is the engine not getting the fuel it needs under boost which almost always results in SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE. It is like running nitrous wihtout any fuel inrichment. Your computer doesn't know your engine has a supercharger on it. If your supercharger put out more boost you would have burned pistons and posible catasropic engine failure. You may already have damaged your engine depending on how many runs under boost you have made.
PUT THE FMU BACK ON!! Get the 24lb calibration dics for it and make sure your MAF is calibrated for the 24lb injectors. Then your problems will go away. |
Ok. thanks. do you know where i can get a 24lb disk? the other thing is that the car has run fine before. its just starting to do this. Could it be a leaky injector??

I'd call up Vortech eng. They should be able ot help you.
