Squeeky...T/O Bearing
 Good Morning.....Joe here in CT....I have a 2003 GT with some minor mods...I read a some opinions on clutch assemblies and must say that I put a Centerforce DF in my car and it has been great. No chatter and great performance....I cant be more happy with it...to this point anyways. I also hear of another minor problem with the Throw out bearing....squeeking on the pressure plate(I hear it every day!!) .....Is this a common thing in the newer GT's...what can I do short of adjusting the steeda quadrant and firewall adjuster so that the bearing runs all the time??? I have heard that if you put an opposing spring on the fork that the noise will stop.....Help.. Regards, Joe

No it is not normal for any throughout bearing to squeek......Could have been caused by clutch adjusted too tight making the bearing ride on the clutch, riding the clutch pedal or last choice would be a bad bearing..........Only way I know of getting rid of the noise is to replace it.

Mine has been squeaking for 9,000 miles. I just got it fixed for $340. That was the cost of the SLP Cat Back. Now, I don't hear it anymore.

That has been an ongoing issue for YEARS! I had my clutch replaced 2x's under warranty because of it. I went to a motorsport clutch and an adjustable quaddrant to fix it. Some people have the problem and some do not ever! Go fiquire.
You can just tighten up the quaddrant a hair and the noise should go away. But it might be to late and the bearing can now be shot. Good luck and let us know. |
Thanks for your input...I know a few owners of newer GT's that have been having the squeeking noise at idle. It is not a bad bearing but more like the bearing jumping around on the pressure plate(metal to metal contact). I have heard that an opposing spring on the fork will eliminate that very anoying noise....or even some teflon spray.......Has anyone done this, and does it stop the nightmare???.............Thanks again for your insight....Joe

I am telling you guys, just get a louder exhaust! (lol)
But seriously, I had a Ford service manager listen to mine. He said it was probably a high spot rubbing on the bearing. It could be replaced and then start doing it again anyway. Mine comes and goes, but I simply don't hear it anymore over the exhaust...really. |
I've heard alot of them squeak. Its common. Just get you some lubricant spray and drive on. Worked for me till I blew the engine up and replaced it and the clutch, among other things.
