289 bent push rod

Just built my 289, less than 100 miles it started clicking and progressively got worse. Took valve cover off and found bent pushrod. Could someone give me some idea what could cause this and what I have to do to fix it.

If you're running an adjustable valvetrain and it was set too tight the pushrod would bend.

OK I could have done that, I'm not perfect by a long shot, I.ll drop another one in and try again. Could that have destroyed my lifter too?

I just thought a little more about what you said, The valve train is hydraulic, I did put the hydraulic version of the HI-PO cam in it when it was rebuilt, also put the heavier double springs.

even with hydraulic?

Yes, a too tight adjustment or binding valve train could bend a push rod . None others were bent though, right? I would just replace it, adjust it correctly, and try again.
