Wrong Lubricant in my T5 ??

I have T5 WC ID# 1352-169 that resides in a 89 Ford Mustang 5.0.

I've read the it is "supposed" to be lubricated by ATF.

My T5 has what appears to be 70w gear oil in it.

What problems may ensue from having 70w gear oil in it instead of ATF ??

our T5's have needle bearings - thicker oil will not flow through them. i would get that stuff out ASAP!

many like to run a good synthetic. i use Redline D4. 2.6 quarts is what it takes, as i recall.

some other T5's have used gear oil (i.e. broncos with steel synchros, etc), but i dont know of any T5's in stangs requiring gear oil.

i will note that when i took my trans fluid out (car had 150K, but i have no reason to believe it was NOT original. aaarggh), it looked thicker than ATF and smelled just like gear oil (that pungent smell we all love).
for peace of mind, i would swap it. it is cheap, even with synthetic products....
good luck.
