What size to drill out axles for Moroso studs?
I have some Moroso 3" wheel studs on the way but I understand that you have to drill out the axles to get them to fit. They are .625" knurl studs. Supposed to be the correct ones for my application.

Moroso studs SUCK. They're way too soft.
I had them in on my hatch for a while. You could just look at them wrong and they would cross thread. Go ARP If they're the stock size, just pound them in with a BFH. -Josh, aka the tireburner |
Moroso studs
I too have some Moroso 3in. studs sitting around...waiting for me to pull my axles, rebuild my diff. and install them. They look WAY TOO BIG for the stock stud holes. The difference in diameter, compared to the stock studs is huge. I don't even know if pounding the Morosos in with a sledge would do it?? I hope so!

Someone over on the Corral told me 39/64" so I am going to try that. I'll let you know what happens.

Sounds about right...
If the studs are .625" I would go 1/2" hole first and see where that puts you. You can always drill too small and sneak up on it, but if you drill too big the first time.........
I drilled mine to 1/2" and then used a reamer. My thoughts were using a tapered hole would make them tighter the further in the hole they were. I also used a big thick flat washer and an OLD lugnut in lieu of the BFH, but either way will work. With the BFH, it's too hard to keep the stud straight. |
Yep, 39/64" will give the proper interference fit.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot.
Edit: AAAAGGGGGHHHH! Just got the studs in the mail today and they are .615" knurl diameter. Part number 46180. Is this the right part number for my application? Do I still drill out the axles to 39/64"? |
