Harmonic Balancer stuck on???...
I'm re-building my chevy vortec 350 (winter ride that didn't make it threw the winter)..
Anyway I can't get the dampner off???? Already broke one puller any tips? I never had a problem like this with my mustang's motor does anyone know these motors? Is there a trick? Thanks-alot in advance... Big Bopper. |
Do I just need a better puller? I did remove the bolt and washer...
Anyone know the answer? |
im not too conversant with the Chevy damper vs a stang (should be the same). if the washer etc is out......i would spray behind it, and in front of it with something like PB Blaster and let it sit.
if you put the crank bolt (w/o washer) back in - just enough to thread in a bit, and then use the puller, you wont take a chance on galling the crank threads with the puller snout. i dont have much else to add. i would use some never seize on the hub of the new one, to help with this in the future. do you have a halfway decent puller? CSK rents a pretty nice puller and installer kit. good luck. |
I got it off .....If anyone was wondering ..it was held on by a sealant called "wacker" no bull!! It was spread all over the woodruff key and slot what a hassle! I burned most of the sealant off with my cutting torch!!!!! I ended up breaking two pullers ($40 ones) ...,finally spent the big bucks on a snap-on one...
Probally have to buy a new balancer,..the heat I guess wrecked the old one! I hate GM!!!!!!!!! Always hard to work on!!!!! I swear this is how ford fans are made! I will never buy another GM EVER! I'm turning my old LX into a pick-up! That will be one fast p/u! |
My Tahoe has given me fits, I have not had to do motor work yet but I am on my third tranny this one a GM direct unit that cost 1700  for parts and I did the labor. Its a real pain in the ass, and now it is making a weird whinning which may be the rearend exiting stage right (I am begining to hate this thing).
However it looks like because of the GF we maybe getting a new tahoe looks like I am gonna invest in a extended warranty! |
